Compliance with HIPAA presents new and changing challenges as providers embrace the use of social media and new technologies. ANCOR provides association members with critical information and training opportunities to comply with HIPAA federal privacy protections for personal health information.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), Public Law 104-191, was enacted on August 21, 1996. Since the law's enaction, regulations have been promulgated several times to implement HIPAA. Regulations include:

  • Transactions and Code Set Standards
  • Identifier Standards
  • Privacy Rule
  • Security Rule
  • Enforcement Rule
  • Breach Notification Rule

In 2013, a final rule impelmenting the HITECH Act was issued to strengthen the privacy and security protections for health information established under HIPAA. ANCOR is pleased to offer its members a discounted rate on the HIPAA Privacy and Security Compliance Resource manual for ANCOR Private Providers (available for purchase at the link below), which will help providers to navigate the requirements of HIPAA and its accompanying regulations.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has consoldiatated all regulatory language into a single document available here.
